Our Purpose
The A+ Coalition is an education initiative of the Natchitoches Area Chamber of Commerce that works to bring members of the community together to advance education in Natchitoches Parish. The Chamber recognizes the importance of education to the success and growth of our community, and understands that the responsibility lies not only on the shoulders of our educators, but on the entire community at large. The A+ Coalition aims to offer a platform for organizations and individuals to get involved, stay informed, and give of their time and resources to make an impact on education in Natchitoches Parish.
Together with our members and partners, the A+ Coalition aims to:Â
- Attract and retain great teachers
- Recognize and support teaching excellence
- Promote and incentivize student performance
- Engage and mobilize the business community
Our Events
Elite Scholars Ceremony
In an effort to promote and incentivize student performance, high school seniors across the Parish who meet certain academic criteria are recognized at the annual Elite Scholars Ceremony, which is hosted by the A+ Coalition and its partners each May.
Students from Natchitoches Central, St. Mary’s, Lakeview and Louisiana School for Math, Science & the Arts (LSMSA) are selected by school counselors based on their ACT scores, GPA and dual enrollment credits. Scholars are acknowledged and rewarded for their academic achievements in a room full of parents, educators, and community supporters.
This event exemplifies the mission of the A+ Coalition: to bring our community together to reward academic excellence and advance education in Natchitoches Parish.
New Teachers Welcome
The A+ Coalition and its partners welcome new Natchitoches Parish teachers every August just prior to the beginning of school. Team players such as the Natchitoches Community Alliance, the Natchitoches Parish School Board, the College of Education at Northwestern State University, the City of Natchitoches and the Chamber of Commerce come together to thank these individuals for choosing Natchitoches Parish, welcome them to our community, and offer our support as they begin the school year. The Coalition hopes to build on this event every year in an effort to attract and retain great teachers.
OUR WORKÂ
Math Counts
The Chamber Education Fund supports middle school math development by sponsoring Natchitoches Parish math clubs who compete in regional and state MathCounts competitions. Middle school math club advisors may contact us to opt in to this program.
Technology Grant
Educators in the school district may apply annually to the A+ Coalition Technology in Education Grant, which is funded through the Chamber Education Fund. This grant is awarded on an annual basis to a teacher in Natchitoches Parish for innovative technology used to advance classroom learning and enhance the skills of students.
